PREPARATION OF COUGH MIXTURE FOR YOUR PETS (Saline Electuary); A Practical Activity

The word saline electuary is taken from two different languages. The word saline is probably taken from latin language related to salinum, meaning a salt cellar (cellar means basement) or salinae, means salt pits (pits means contents).The word electuary  have two  origins. One is from Late Latin electuarium, means paste for oral use but some people say that it is taken from Greek word ekleikton, from ekleikhein, to lick up. It is a herbal product made up of herbs and some salts, dissolved in the sugar, honey or gur which is administered orally and used as a bronchodilator in some respiratory problems like Asthmas, COPD, and Allergic respiratory reactions or a herbal medical paste made up of dried herbs, salts and some palatable substances which is administered per os for the problems of upper respiratory tract like allergy, COPD, asthma etc.

Preparation:

3	Liquorice	188g	Expectorant by increasing the secretion, soothing (gently calm), lubrication.
4	Ammonium chloride	125g	Irritation of the respiratory tract, increase secretion and cough up the sputum (expectorant).
5	Molasses	As required	Rich source of energy. Increase palatability. Increase consistency.
6	Soy	188g	Increase secretions.

DOSE:

FOR CATTLE,BUFFALO:  The normal dose is 100g per animal per day.

FOR DOG,CAT,SHEEP, GOAT:  The normal dose is 25g per animal per day.
